Whale Trail Enhancement

As the Whale Trail continues to near completion, there are a number of opportunities to further enhance the user experience on existing trail.

1. To seal the Redwood Pass Rd over the next two years.  1.8km from SH1 to the rest area at the top of the pass in year one;  2km of trail from Redwood Pass down to join up to the existing sealed road in year two.
2. To review and work with the MKTT trust on maintenance - to ensure a high quality user experience is maintained over future years and that maintenance budget grows in line with increased number of users.
3.  To committ resources to celebrate Marlborough's identity through local artwork along the trail -  eg murals, cultural interpretations, art pieces etc.  This could be a commitment of one item per year for the next 10 years.
4. To help develop a significant ecology showpiece down Mirza Creek to the shoreline near Waimea. - That MDC joins the Whale Trail and other interested community groups to educate and celebrate our natural wonderland in this special area.

1. To seal the Redwood Pass Rd over the next two years.  The current gravel road at times of the year is slippery, dusty and rutted posing challenges for less experienced riders.
2. To review and work with the MKTT trust on maintenance - The Whale Trail will showcase Marborough and some of its finest assets.  It must remain well kept and as popularity increases so will wear and tear on the trail.
3.  To committ resources to celebrate Marlborough's identity through local artwork along the trail - Our region has many things to celebrate.  Periodic art pieces at appropriate sites along the trail will help tell Marlborough's story and further enhance the user experience.  
4. To help develop a significant ecology showpiece down Mirza Creek to the shoreline near Waimea.
   This section of the trail can help tell the story of the various natural treasures that Marlborough has.
