Te Ara Tuhono Link Pathway ongoing repair and care

The Link Pathway, connecting communities between Havelock and Picton, is a popular and well-used pathway and is an important part of Marlborough's trail network. Yet, unlike other pathways/tracks in the region, this significant pathway has large sections that are not part of MDC's maintenance regime.

The Link Pathway is already being well used and enjoyed, and is facilitating community groups involved in native tree restoration, predator control, outdoor education / recreation, and the like. It has display panels interpreting the natural and social history of the area, is an arts trail, and serves as an attractive alternative to the Queen Charlotte Drive for mountain-bikers, runners, and walkers.

With recent work begun to extend the pathway to link with Nelson, it's benefit to the region will only grow.

It deserves regular funding support from MDC for repair and care.

Why the contribution is important

With around 50,000 users recorded annually the pathway is both bringing visitors to the region, and providing an important means of recreation and wellbeing for locals. The Link Pathway Trust is doing an amazing job of looking after the pathway using volunteers, with limited funds through user-donations, but this facility deserves to be supported by Marlborough District Council on an on-going basis.
