Increase protection of Significant Natural Areas on private land

Protecting SNAs on private land by management interventions or legal covenants ensures short to medium and long-term protection. Dedicate resources to this goal including communication around what's special about SNA sites, why and how they can be protected and funding where there's a high priority (e.g. rare and threatened native plants and animals).

Why the contribution is important

Marlborough has a high number of rare and threatened native species and endemism. There is little point in just identifying sites. The aim needs to be inspiring responsible management and long-term protection or species will be lost.
