Anti Litter Signage onState Highway 1
Anti Litter signage to be erected on SH1 between Picton and Blenheim town centres.
Why the contribution is important
A region can control litter through a multi-pronged approach, that includes public awareness campaigns, improved infrastructure, maintenance, and effective enforcement.
Key strategies include providing adequate and well-maintained public bins, promoting responsible disposal through education and incentives, and implementing measures like fines for littering and illegal dumping.
Targeted campaigns and education via signage and social media, that address specific littering issues are proven to be effective.
If we want to reduce litter in Marlborough, we need signage like the rest of the country and we need it now.
Litter endangers our environment, our wildlife, and our economy. It pollutes our neighbourhoods, decreases property and place values, and destroys our landscapes natural beauty. The ideal way to manage the problem of littering, is to prevent it in the first place but good litter management is an essential part of any region that is serious about its environment and its economy.
