Increased Tourism opportunity for small towns
Marlborough Summer School
Based on the very successful programme run by Marlborough College in Wiltshire England. This could be a sister city/town initiative.
The town hosts "Summer School" over a 2-3 week period during the summer holidays. Various courses are run within the school buildings and grounds on a wide range of subjects that are family friendly and open to different ages and stages. eg. arts, crafts, mechanics, IT, sports, How to Make ... etc
It attracts people from out of town who come to the region to stay, enjoy the sights of Marlborough and spend money.
Why the contribution is important
This will attract individuals and families from other regions to experience Marlborough and all she has to offer in the height of our summer. Schools within the region can be used (as closed for school holidays) which could be an income earner for them as a course-hosting facility or as an area for self-contained accommodation. After-course activities could be planned to bring people into the Blenheim CBD at night. eg. concerts, night markets etc.
All in all, a win win for the Marlborough economy and local tourism
