Goat Culls on Land Adjacent to Built Up Areas

I live on the bush line within Waikawa and with the weather events we have had over the last few years, slips are commonplace, quantity of water a factor of course but I do note very little ground cover under the canopy of the trees and bush. I know the goats are instrumental in keeping the ground cover bare as well as bark stripping a lot of the lower hanging bush. For the ground cover to recover then the goat numbers need to be drastically reduced, ground cover is so important to bind the predominant clay based topsoil and this then plays a part in keeping our soil structures together as well as assisting in filtering the heavy rainfall we get.

I would think it’s not a yearly thing ( I’m not a expert)  but certainly every two years  at the appropriate time of year that professionals would quickly and relatively humanely keep those numbers in check.

Why the contribution is important

Control goat numbers to encourage ground cover recovery.
