Elaine Bay Fuel Services

Removal of distressed fuel tanks, and support/funding for reinstatment of 20,000 lt above ground fuel storage facility, fully compliant with relevant regulations

Total reinstatement costs are provisionally estimated at $450,000.

EBFS is a non profit Incorporated Society. It has a 25yr supply agreement with NPD, who in the interests of supporting the reinstatement project have committed to supply tanks at approx $100,000 value. Further financial support is available from Member pledges (approx $60,000) and the Marlborough Mayoral fund ($25,000).

Support is required to complete the funding package - $265,000.

Why the contribution is important

Elaine Bay is a critical piece of Sounds marine infrastructure that supports community and industry use.  Industry use includes the farming community (including D'Urville Island), aquaculture, tourism and forestry.  DOC and recreational boating activity and Maori are also users.  Ngati Koata are supportive of these improvements.

The Marlborough Sounds Future Access Study identified Elaine Bay as an important marine hub that would support current use alongside the road network and a resilient marine option should the road become unusable.

This renewal will support the reliability and convenience of fuel supply and provide a sustainable long term fuel service.

The future provision of the fuel will incoporate a depreciation reserve to fund future renewals, supported by appropriate governance and management.  The renewal will alleviate the risk associated with cartage and storage of fuel (the current operation has been suspended for 18 months).
